Job Description:

At Regions, the Strategic Financial Risk Manager is responsible for building an effective, repeatable Strategic Financial Risk program. Such a program will serve as the 2nd line of defense in ensuring that the company meets its financial targets and minimizes earnings volatility. The Manager’s responsibilities will include overseeing the company’s enterprise-wide Strategic Planning Process that culminates in Regions’ annual Strategic Financial Plan. The Manager will be responsible for overseeing all financial aspects of Strategic Risk such as capital allocation, financial planning, strategic financial projections, performance monitoring, and strategic risk appetite metrics. The position resides within the 2nd line Financial Risks function and reports to the Head of Market, Liquidity, and Capital Risk Management (MLC Risk).

The Strategic Financial Risk Manager will work with several other groups on a regular basis, including Strategic Planning, Corporate Finance, Corporate Treasury, and Enterprise Risk Management. This Manager will oversee and/or produce (through his or her team) scenario analysis, quantitative assessments, sensitivity and/or stress testing, process mapping, policy and procedure documentation, governance activities, and regulatory compliance. Given the quantitative nature of Strategic Financial Risk, this Manager will focus on quantitative activities within the company’s Strategic Planning Process and will direct the development and implementation of independent reporting and/or financial analysis through the Manager’s direct reports. The Head of MLC Risk will look to the Strategic Financial Risk Manager to research regulatory expectations and industry best practices, and serve as the 2nd line subject matter expert in strategic financial planning and risk mitigation. As a manager within the MLC Risk group, this role will also partner with peer managers to lead improvements and regular updates of various practices within the MLC Risk Management department. The position will have managerial responsibility for a small team of approximately two analysts.

This role will work closely with numerous other divisions of Regions to ensure the successful completion of these responsibilities, and therefore should regularly network across the company. This position is in a group that is highly visible within the organization with regular exposure to senior and executive level members of management. The role will also communicate Strategic Financial Risk oversight improvements and developments to regulators. Under the direction of the Head of MLC Risk, this leader will work to ensure that Regions continues to advance its strategic planning activities and related risk assessments.

This position is exempt from timekeeping requirements under the Fair Labor Standards act and is not eligible for overtime pay.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree

  • Minimum seven (7) years of experience

  • Comfort with financial statements and budget reporting

  • Experience writing and polishing reports, procedures, and/or presentations for executive-level consumption

  • Experience with quantitative analysis of opaque business problems, including comfort directing others in digesting data and producing relevant analyses

  • Examples of leadership skills and/or experiences, though prior management experience is not required

  • Self-starter, problem-solving attitude with the ability to manage projects with only occasional oversight

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong oral, written, and analytical skills

  • Ability to work on a team

  • Fluency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

  • Excellent organization, time management, and project management skills

Preferences

  • Professional certification and/or degree, such as CPA, CFA, MBA, etc.

  • Experience in a banking or financial institution

  • Experience with SAS software

  • Advanced project management skills

  • Prior management experience
