Job Description:

At Regions, the Risk Analyst performs advanced risk analyst duties as a 1st or 2nd line of defense function for the bank under minimal supervision. This Risk Analyst will lead the coordination efforts with internal and external parties to conduct financial reporting, controls, policy and procedure documentation, governance activities, and regulatory compliance. Additionally, the analyst will develop and implement independent reporting and/or financial analysis to assist in the Risk team’s oversight role. This role will also lead improvement efforts and provide regular updates of various practices, reports, policies, and procedures within the department. This role may serve as a team/project lead to lesser experienced analysts.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Oversees the day-to-day identification, measurement, mitigation, monitoring, and reporting

  • Designs, develops, and reports independent analyses that provide greater insight into risk exposures and mitigation efforts

  • Enhances team processes, and updates policies and procedures to reflect improvements

  • Leads in the team’s preparation and involvement in regulatory examinations, which may include the annual Federal Reserve stress tests, examinations, etc.

  • Stays well informed of regulatory and industry practices and alerts team of updates

  • Solves a range of standard-complex problems and analyzes possible solutions using standard procedures

  • Works towards mastery of knowledge of the organization, processes, and customers

  • May serve on related committees and/or working groups

  • May perform financial stress testing simulations

  • Considered subject matter expert in associated risk and risk management methodology

This position is exempt from timekeeping requirements under the Fair Labor Standards act and is not eligible for overtime pay.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Risk Management, Finance, or Business related field

  • Seven (7) years of related experience

At Regions, the Strategic Financial Risk Analyst performs analytical duties related to Regions’ strategic planning process that culminates in the company’s annual Strategic Financial Plan, as well as other financial aspects of Strategic Risk such as capital allocation, financial planning, strategic financial projections, performance monitoring, and strategic risk appetite metrics. This Risk Analyst resides in the 2nd line Financial Risks function and assists in the oversight of 1st line strategic financial planning activities. The Analyst will work with several other groups on a regular basis, including Strategic Planning, Corporate Finance, Corporate Treasury, and Enterprise Risk Management. As a key responsibility of this role, the Analyst will design and implement new financial analysis to assist in the MLC Risk Management team’s oversight role. As a result, this Analyst should have the ability to produce quantitative analysis and proactively administer components of larger projects.

This role will work closely with numerous other divisions of Regions to ensure the successful completion of these responsibilities and further enhance the MLC Risk Management’s oversight of Strategic Financial Risk. This position is in a group that is highly visible within the organization with exposure to senior and executive level members of management .

Primary Responsibilities

  • Oversee the day-to-day identification, measurement, mitigation, monitoring, and reporting of Strategic Financial Risks with primary focus on the quantitative aspects of the company’s strategic planning process that culminates in the Strategic Financial Plan

  • Design, develop, and report independent analyses that provide greater insight into Business Level and Corporate Strategic risk exposures and mitigation efforts – these analyses will be quantitative and qualitative as appropriate

  • Partner with key stakeholders to effectively challenge Regions’ capital allocation process, ensuring capital is allocated to businesses and initiatives that create the greatest amount of shareholder value

  • Conduct the Financial Assessment associated with New Initiatives and Capital Expenditure Investments Process

  • As necessary, support the financial analysis conducted in conjunction with mergers and acquisitions and equity investments by providing effective challenge over the way in which the transaction promotes or frustrates Regions’ Strategic Plan

  • Provide effective challenge of product profitability including economic capital, funds transfer pricing and risk adjusted return on capital

  • Understand and effectively incorporate analyst feedback and Investor Relations communications into criterions used to assess Strategic Financial Risk

  • With oversight from a manager, implement repeatable, effective processes to oversee Strategic Financial Risk, and update policies and procedures to reflect improvements

  • Partner with key stakeholders to ensure outcomes discussed during Simplify and Grow are appropriately incorporated into the Strategic Planning Process and tracked over time

  • Write concise and accurate documents that communicate the key aspects of Strategic Financial Risk, which may include reports, procedures, and/or presentations

  • Participate in the team’s preparation and involvement in regulatory examinations

  • Ensure the quality and accuracy of analyses and reports

  • Research regulatory expectations and industry practices

  • Build knowledge of the industry, organization, processes, and customers
